Museums in Denver

The Children’s Museum of Denver is designed especially for children up to eight years old, and focuses on different aspects of daily life. There are many interactive exhibits that the children will love. It is both educational and fun, covering topics such as recycling, fire safety and shopping. On weekdays this museum is open from 09:00 to 16:00, and on weekends from 10:00 to 17:00.

The Denver Firefighters Museum displays the history of firefighting in Denver with numerous historic photos and news clippings. This museum is open from Monday to Saturday between the hours of 10:00 and 16:00.

Situated in a beautiful Victorian house is the Denver Museum of Miniatures, Dolls and Toys. This museum features wonderful displays of collectible dolls and exquisite dollhouses. Children under 5 can enter for free and the museum is open from Tuesday to Saturday between 10:00 and 16:00. On Sundays it is open from 13:00 to 16:00.

A very popular museum in Denver is the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. It has many innovative exhibits, and aims to present the history of life on earth and the universe’s creation. The main attractions include the Gates Planetarium, Prehistoric Journey, Hall of Life and a pair of Egyptian mummies. This museum is open everyday between 09:00 and 17:00.

Other interesting museums in Denver include the Black American West Museum and Heritage Centre, the Colorado History Museum, the Museo de las Americas and the Wings over the Rockies Air and Space Museum.

Attraction Venues in Denver

4,000 animal species live in their natural environment at the Denver Zoo. Many of these animals are endangered species. The Denver Zoo is a very impressive tourist attraction to visit. One of the highlights includes Predator Ridge, which depicts the African Savannah. The zoo is open everyday during April to September from 09:00 to 17:00. From October to March it is open daily between 10:00 and 16:00.

Water creature enthusiasts will love the Downtown Aquarium in Denver. The aquarium was originally known as Colorado’s Ocean Journey. Visitors and tourists can enjoy a wide range of aquatic exhibits and ecosystems from all around the world. The interactive sting ray reef touch tank is a popular sight to see. More than 500 aquatic animals live in over one million gallons of water at the aquarium. The Downtown Aquarium is open from Sunday to Thursday between the hours of 10:00 and 22:00. On Fridays and Saturdays it is open from 10:00 to 23:00.

Since 1889, the Six Flags Elitch Garden Theme Park has provided family fun and entertainment with its many different rides and attractions. Some of the rides include the Flying Coaster, the daunting Twister II, the ominous Tower of Doom and the Halfpipe. Kids will thoroughly enjoy the Looney Tunes MovieTown and everyone will be entertained by the stunt shows and concerts. There are also arcade games and many landscaped gardens to be enjoyed. The theme park is open between the months of April to October, everyday from 10:00 to 22:00.

Events and Festivals In Denver

Throughout the year, Denver is alive with event and festivals. Festivals in January include the National Western Stock Show and Rodeo, and the Martin Luther King Parade. The Rocky Mountain Air Fair is held in mid-March and Earth Day in mid-April at the Denver Botanic Garden. Rides, games, music, a rodeo and lots of free entertainment is enjoyed each year at the Colorado State Fair in August. The OktoberFest in mid-September is spread out over two weekends and features German dancing, music, 'Oompah' bands, food booths and plenty of beer!

Many other events and festivals are enjoyed during the other months of the year by Denver locals and tourists.
